L’artiste

Born in 1946 in the Côte d’Or region of France, of Italian ancestry, Georgio taught himself the ancient craft of sculpting in stone. He learnt by doing and by seeing, drawing inspiration from the masters of the past, such as Michelangelo Buonarotti.
He now lives and works in the north-east of France, near Beaune.

Talking about his work, Georgio says:

Stone has been used by men throughout the ages. As a medium of expression, it still has many stories to tell. My aim is to bring together in a single piece of stone the imaginative and the symbolic, the finished and the unfinished, the visible and the invisible. I seek to explore the relationship between raw and sculpted rock, between density and fluidity, between mystery and revelation.
